[Pretentious Quote]
- Intelligent – If nothing else, Avery is a bright boy. However, his tendency to use it as an excuse to act like an asshole really doesn’t help.
- Somewhat Understanding – Though not utilized often, Avery can show a bit of compassion for others if he truly understands that he’s upset them.
- Pragmatic – Pessimism and cowardice are not often good traits, but at the very least they allow Avery to look at things from a realistic perspective. He’s decent with practical life advice.
- Honest – If nothing else, his occasional blunt rudeness is at least entirely honest. Avery isn’t one to beat about the bush or bother to be two-faced. You can at least count on him to tell the truth.
- Determined – Though this can become unhealthy at times, Avery will fixate on a job and will stop at nothing until it’s done.
- Distrustful – Avery looks out for himself primarily, and doesn’t trust many other people.
- Pretentious – Avery has a bit of a problem with thinking that he’s smarter or inherently better than everyone else because he came from a wealthy upbringing and attended a university.
- Coward – Avery is clearly concerned with his own safety and not much else. He’s already ridden with anxiety over most things, but an actual dangerous situation sends him over the edge.
- Stingy – Needing to save his money to pay off the debt to his old university makes Avery inherently cheap and unwilling to spent his hard-earned coin.
- Awkward – He’s not the best with social interaction or general communication, so he tends to avoid it.
- Stubborn – You do it his way or you don’t do it at all.
- Callous – Avery often doesn’t understand how to talk or respond to people, and seems to lack a lot of empathy that he should have. As a result, he tends to say things that come off as/are blatantly rude.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral. Avery doesn’t always have the best of ethics or moral values, but he does value the law and its ability to stick him in jail if he steps out of line. His fear of authority figures definitely feeds into this.
Public Alignment: Lawful Good. If you can’t have the best of morals, at least pretend that you do.
Political Alignment: Man, what kind of fantasy politics do we even have here?
Sexuality: Bisexual
Kills: Bitch what do you think this boy is
Deaths: N/A

‘Wand’ – Decent – His ‘wand’ is really just a stick he had fashioned into a wand-like object for street magic purposes. It’s little more than decoration.
Pocket-watch – Fine – A silver pocket-watch which was given to him when he first left for his university to help a bit with his need for a sense of time.
Magician Outfit – Eh – It’s a more cheap outfit with a silly hat and mask used for when he would perform to small crowds to make money.
Glasses – Fine – Avery has always been far-sighted, though not horribly. He nevertheless wears a pair of round reading glasses whenever needed.
Elvish Dagger, Small -- Fine -- A small blade Avery bought to arm himself against potential threats.

"I've had a lifetime living in the constant, interchanging shadows of others monumental enough to reach the expectations dangling just out of my reach."
"Who wrote the letter?" They asked with a curious tilt of their head.
Avery ducked his head down, tapping his fingers nervously against the table; a tic he'd never been able to truly get rid of.
"I... I don't think I'm ready to talk about her yet."
Avery Ceres Portclaire II had been born the sixth son to the wealthy family of Portclaire; one of the more prestigious families in his hometown of Fairolin. Named after a dead older brother in an attempt to keep his memory alive, Avery always had trouble distinguishing himself from his older brothers and gaining the attention and approval from his parents. Having been raised by his wet-nurse Gertrude, Avery saw them rather infrequently. Though they seemed to appreciate him, he always had the sense that he wasn't satisfying their ideas for what he should be. No matter what he did, it always seemed wrong in some way.
Despite his long-time wish to be a musical composer, he eventually relented after his parents belittling of the career finally wore him down. He settled for the next best thing: dedicating his life to the study and practice of magic. His parents were thrilled that he'd found a worthwhile career choice, and once he was old enough, immediately enrolled him in Alámenë: University of the Arcane.
Though Avery enjoyed the new environment, he had to admit that it felt very rigid in its rulings. He didn't seem to understand a lot of the unspoken social mores around the school and made a jerk of himself in the process. He would frequently argue with or correct the professors, interrupt other students to add on an extra note, or do a project in an entirely different style because "it just made more sense this way." To most, this made him seem like kind of an asshole, to others, however, he seemed intriguingly rebellious.
One such person who thought this way was Annie Adler, a young mage who'd manage to pay off her tuition on a scholarship and months of saved funds. Around the region of the school, it was generally believed that those who didn't have Elvish roots were not fit to practice magic, and therefore wouldn't be accepted to many schools. Considering it was a region inhabited by mostly humans, it was only the more wealthy families with rich ancestry who could attempt to claim any kind of Elvish roots. Still feeling passionate about this controversial topic, Annie spoke to Avery and asked him to join her cause of advocacy, fighting back against the stigma of non-Elven magic users.
Avery eventually agreed, going on to publish nearly a dozen essays on the subject over the course of several months with the help of his new friend. The university began to take notice, and it all came to a boiling point once Annie had started giving speeches on a small podium in the centre of town.
The guards, working off the orders that Annie's actions were to be considered violent hate-speech, went to arrest her and any affiliates. Once his friend had been hauled off, Avery opted to run instead of trying to help her.
After a week of guilt more began to pile on. Alámenë's dean declared that they would be expelling him indefinitely and that his family would have to pay for his tuition and other expenses in full. Upon hearing this, however, his parents were furious. They refused to have a discredited and indebted academic for a son and coldly informed him that he would be welcome in the family again once he'd paid off his debt.
Avery felt the full weight of his own shame bearing down on him as he left the school with a letter from an imprisoned Annie in his coat pocket. He decided to take the last name 'Kinney' temporarily until he was worthy to bear the respectable name of his family once again and now travels frequently, going through odd job after odd job in an effort to make some money so that he might one day feel accepted again.

Past Religion: Ithica, the goddess of divine rights and wealth.

Combat Training: Basic fencing that he doesn’t remember much of.
Skill set:
- Academia - Avery has studied hard both in his childhood education and in his later University years. He considers learning to be one of the most important influence in his life, and constantly dedicates himself to the pursuit of knowledge.
- Magic - Though he studied the illusionary school of magic in University, Avery remains a novice mage. Despite this, he still shows an acute talent for the arcane arts.
- Musician/Composer - He'll say that he 'gave up on all that fluff' when he was a child, but Avery remains an avid lover of music and composing. He plays many instruments, including the flute, lyre, and harpsichord. He has a natural knack for learning new instruments, and often tries to do so whenever he has spare time.
- Fast learner - Due to his love of learning, Avery prides himself on being able to do it quickly. Once he's studied a subject enough to understand it, he's usually able to get a decent handle on it.
- Time-management - Avery is a little paranoid about time, or moreso the passage of it. He hates having to imagine himself wasting time, and therefore has become rather apt at being able to manage it accordingly.
- Cartographer - Due to frequent travelling over the last year or so, Avery has actually become a decent reader/maker of maps.
- Cooking - Avery has always enjoyed cooking. It's a controlled environment of various equations and formulas that create something wonderful to eat.
