If you intend on playing, or want to play a Maiderian, please message me, or comment below for additional information or to ask questions!
Da Madieria
A curious culture, the Da Maderian come in two breeds:
Gaineamh
Meaning Sand, these people dwell within the sands surrounding the Island in underground homes. Their hopes open onto the surface, and are rather comfortable. However they are built to be temporary, as the Gaineamh beleive the culture of the Maderian people should be spread, and most Gaineamh are either honest sailors who travel the world in hopes to trade with other peoples the goods of both item and tounge, or they are pirates who seek to conquer all they cross and often end up enslaving those they capture.
Coillte
Meaning Woods, these people took to building their homes among the forests of the Island, and tend to live either in hopes built directly into the trees, or built out of ones that have been felled by storms. These Coillte are much more reserved and conservative than their Gaineamh counterparts, and follow the thought that the Maderian ways should not be spread to other peoples.
Politics
Albeit the two sides are run a bit differently, one thing is common. The Da Maderian are ruled over by a council of 8 members, 4 male, 4 female, 2 each from the opposing sides. Reguardless of the norms of the culture, the titles of the council members, who are referred to as Knights, are passed down from parent to their eldest child of the same gender. Should a member of the council die, and have no children of the same gender, the seat goes up one generation to any siblings of the same gender as the deceased council member, if none exist, any neices or nephews, if none exist, aunts or uncles, then cousins, second cousins, so on, until the seat is filled with someone of the same gender and same affiliation as the previous council seat.
It should also be known, that these Knights create, lead, and teach an order of thought while they are alive.
They form their own order when they take seat on the council, and the order is disbanded when they die. Many,
faithful to their order will stick with the beleives and trades after the death of their Knight, but there have been so many orders that it's hard to keep track of which believes what.

Gaimeadh
Patriarchy. All titles are passed down from father to son, and men are expected to be the breadwinners for the household, albeit women are allowed to hold positions in the society, they are primarily expected to build, care for, and work in their sand dwellings as entertainers, dancers, artists, mothers, and wives.
Coillte
Matriarchy. All titles and items are passed down from mother to daughter, with the first born child receiving all that belonged to her mother and the women before her. The daughter can, if she chooses, divide the inheritance between her siblings and herself, but such is rare. Men are expected to stay home, manage the house, and train his children to be gentlemen and gentlewomen of society.
Marriage and the rite of Passage
One of the few things that is the same with both sides of the culture, Maiderian marraige is rather... unique in certain aspects compared to other cultures. Marraige is rather easily done, albeit it is binding for life. Once a man or woman is wed, they cannot remarry unless their spouse dies, and they have the written consent of the council to remarry. This is due to the small size of the island, and not wanting to risk overpopulation.
The Maiderian wedding ceremony
For a Madierian Wedding, after both parties receive the consent of the council, and the parents of the bride and groom, a seven day festival is held in honor of the pair, with nothing really particular about it, just plenty of dancing, feasting, and every Maiderian and their brother trying to drink eachother under the table, and each night, the bride and the groom perform seven rituals in order, after the seventh they are wed. These, in order are:
The Bride and Groom Kiss eachother six times for luck, and a seventh time for all the days to come after the wedding while standing under an archway.
The Bride is dressed all in blue, and the groom dressed all in red, and placed on opposide sides of the festival, the guests must try to keep them apart, while the Bride and Groom must try to reach eachother, representing how through all the difficulties that come, they must come back to eachother.
The Bride and Groom are tied together by a silk ribbon around their wrists, and the male guests must try to 'kidnapp' the bride, while the female guests attempt to distract the groom. (If they suceed normally the Groom treats the men to a few barrels of mead)
If the Bride was Sucessfully kidnapped, she and the groom won't see eachother again till this night, where, All guests including the Bride and Groom are placed into costumes that are identical between all females and all males, and the Bride and Groom have to identify eachother before the end of the night, if not, they go another day before being able to see eachother.
The Bride and Groom are reuinited, and they are the first to dance that night.
The Bride and Groom dress in Black funeral clothing to symbolize the 'death' of their days alone.
At the end of the festival, after all have gone home, the Bride and the Groom sleep together for the first time, and are considered wed.
If one doesn't wish for the festival, the fast and dirty version of a Madierian marraige is that once any man and any woman sleep together, they are considered wed.
Rite of Passage
Gaineamh
Male of the Gaineamh Tribe begin training for their rite of passage at the age of 14, learning how to shoot, fish, swim, and craft boats. They also choose an apprenticeship to train in so they can eventually take over from the person who trains him. However, a boy is not considered a man by the Gaineamh until he has once sailed away from the island for three days or more and returned.
Females of the Gaineamh Tribe begin their passage to adulthood at the age of 14, where they begin the lengthy process of carving out the sand homes the Gaineamh dwell in, It will likely take her anywhere from 2 to 4 years to finish constructing the home, and once they finish the home, that will be the house they and their husband and children reside in until the children reach adulthood and move out.
Coillte
The Coillte Female begins training the day she begins walking, and it's never really done. She's trained to be an elegant lady, taught how to entertain, how to perform most arts, but also, she takes on an apprenticeship of a roll to later take on. They're expected to become the best leaders for their own household that they can.
The men of the Coillte Tribes beginning their path to adulthood at the age of 10, and are trained on all manners of the household and entertainment and marriage, as well as how to manage a trade.
Appearance
Becaise of their thoughts on spreading their culture and marraige, there are only Elves who are Maiderian, the mixing of races is also strictly forbidden, further purifying the Maiderian Elves. Primarily, they have dark hair of brown or black, and eyes in brown, Hazel or green.
Dress
Dress is the same between both of the halves, and very modest for both genders. Women wear skirts down to their ankles or lower, showing little to no clevage, shoulders covered at all times, either with a shawl or her dress. Men wear long trousers, buttoned shirts and vests, occasionally a hat or two is seen. Most of the time, Maiderians opt not to wear shoes, but will wear them if need be. This of course i sonly their day to day attire, and Maiderians have an entire other wardrobe dedicated to festivals. Durring Festivals, maidens can be seen wearing short, broad skirted dancing gowns (OOC example: Google Irish Dancing Costumes). Men will wear their best clothes in the brightest colors, and sometimes opt not to wear a shirt. Shoes are often worn during festivals as dancing is a must at all hours of the night and day, and they protect the dancer's feet.
A Maiderian's hair during the festival period is often styled in a specific manner with some symbolism behind it. The sides are braided, left only for those who are single, right only for those who are widows/widowers,
and both sides for those who are married. The number of braids and thickness of them varies based off of class.
One braid of 3 strands is a commoner
One braid of 3 strands and one braid of 2 strands is a merchant
Two braids of 2 strands is someone in an apprenticeship.
Two braids of 3 strands is a warrior
Two braids of 3 and one braid of 2 is in the upper class
Three braids of 3 and one braid of 2 is the family member of a knight
Three braids of 3 and two braids of 2 is a knight.
The remaining hair (and all but 1-2 of the braids) is braided back into one singular braid, tied with a ribbon.
Each braid is then decorated with as many ribbons as lives one has taken.
Faith
The Maiderian Faith focuses primarily, on honoring one's parents and those that came before them. Some say this is why the split between the Madierian began, as in their faith it is said that Fathers favor the Gaimeadh, while Mothers favor the Coillte. Some even go as far as to pray to their predecesors, while others just remain respectful of their parents.
History
Legend says that the Maiderian began from 8 Elves who broke away from the clans of Flowing Sun and Guiding Flame and chose to settle upon the small island, and created the first eight orders. These eight Knights also established and created many of the statutes of Maiderian society, yet in the first few decades where they presided, there was no split between the sides. These founding fathers and mothers of Maiderian are the most revered of their historical figures.
It has been 13 Generations since these first 8 sat on the council of Da Maiderian, in that time the culture molding and shaping into something much more colorful and diverse than was originally intended.
Many of their original ideals still remain in modern Maiderian Society, and the Maiderian even now have their own languge which they speak. Of all the events which shaped Maiderian society the most however, was the Civil war of Da Maiderian, which took place 30 years prior to the first ship setting sail from Vaerik to Mirrasil.
Tensions had risen between the Gaimeadh and the Coillte, the population was on the verge of spilling over,
and the Island had become a kettle waiting to whistle out a cry for help. In hopes of resolving the issue,
the council of knights illy forced marriages between Gaimeadh and Coillte, intending to calm the sides.
Instead, the marriage only enraged both sides, first resulting in murders throughout the island. Gaimeadh and Coillte slaughtering each other over simple civil matters, until alleyway murders gave way to war.
Out of the Eight Thousand people living on the Island of Maiderian at the time, by the end of the war only Two Thousand Survived. After the War ended, however, the Da Madierian made an oath, that no matter the difference in belief, thought, or path, it is better to let each live how they please than to cause the end of a life because of an ideal.
What to Expect at A Da Maiderian Festival
If you intend on visiting Da Maiderian, you can probably be assured you won't miss a festival. As Festivals to the Da Maiderian are considered a vital way to honor their ancestors and to meet a future husband/wife, one could understand that they are held quite often, and on a variety of scales. Weddings, Funerals, and Birthdays tend to consume most of the island for between one to three weeks,
while someone could celebrate their hunting hound having been successfully trained with a small festival consuming just a few houses of their street.
Be warned however, that the Da Maiderian are quite friendly in their own sort of way, especially the Gaimeadh. Both Clans tend to have an odd habit of kissing the cheeks of those they meet in greeting, goodbye, or as a thank you. They will also often give one's rear a small slap as a way of encouraging someone. This tents to happen more frequently as the night goes on, as the Gaimeadh have a believe that the more alchohol one can drink before passing out represents their strength, and they will intentionally try to drink eachother, and any willing guests, under the table. Coillte aren't as vocal or drunkish as the Gaimeadh, but to them a festival is not over till the last guest has gone home.

The eldest of the Founding Fathers,
Sir Lovar established the justice system of the Da Maderian, and his order, The Men of Stone, later became the prime example for Maiderian Military. In the time of the founding fathers, he was looked up to often for decisions as he was the eldest.

The Youngest of the Founding Mothers, Dame Polsh is most remembered for her establishment of the grand and happy festivals and parties that are popular among the Maiderian people. Her order, The Chandelier, was designed to bring peace and happiness to everyone in some of the darkest times.
Considered the darkest of the founding Fathers, Sir Kosht's order (The Stain) surrounded health and sickness. Most healing magic which is known by the Maiderians was established by Kosht, including a spell known as the Heart Of Light, which is so potent that the casting mage must sacrifice their very life to cast. Kosht however, is also considered the founding father of the Gaimeadh, as he believed his healing abilities and ways should be spread around the world, and he was the first to leave the Island to spread their ways.
Dame Malvirr is the founder of Maiderian Fashion, with her Order establishing the Maiderian's love for braids, swirling patterns, and bright colors.(The Wife of Sir Claudius Malviir)
Known as the founder of Maiderian wayfinding, Sir Malvirr's order, The Starlit Path, explored the neighboring islands and seas surrounding the Islands.(The Husband of Dame Stariin Malvirr)
Dedicated dearly to the tasts and requirements of motherhood,
Dame Ceriven made certain through her order (The Open Arms) to form and establish the modesty and respect for parents engrained in Maiderian, and she established the ideas of a rite of passage, albeit the current rites of passage are different from what she established.

The Most reserved of the founding Fathers, Sir D'Fair is often the most favored among Coillte Men, as he and his order (The Book Keepers) Established the Libraries of Maiderian and kept the records of their history.
If it weren't obvious enough,
the Dame Nu'Coillte is responsible for the formation of the Coillte half of the clan.
