Spudlings
[rule]
Overview
Native to all the islands of Mirrasil, Spudlings are about as common as field mice, and are often kept as pets in the same manner as chickens due to their adorable, docile manner, and that they also are wonderful for potato lovers. Naturally, they tend to be found near rivers or in moist ground, and tending to take 'root' in an area they particularly like in order to rest, eat, and to produce more Spudlings. There is gender to the spudlings, as they produce by rooting themselves in a spot and letting their roots grow for several months to produce more spudlings. They're easily domesticatable, just provide them some good moist soil to root in and plenty of sunlight. If you should have the heart to wonder what these adorable potato-like creatures taste like, know that they are completely edible, and their flesh is similar to that of their non-sentient cousin, albeit they do have nerves and a small brain in that tiny body of theirs. They also come in multiple breeds, almost as many as there is a variety of potato.
Basic summary
Appearance: Potatoes with face-like markings, two leaves ground out of their front like ears, and a mass of roots underneath that naturally grow and twist into 'paws' that help the spudling move
Location: Found in Deciduous forests in damp areas.
Behavior: Very curious but calm, mild, and friendly.
Rarity: Very common, as common as field mice
Physical Appearance
See Photos at the top and bottom of this post. Spudling are similar to potatoes in appearance, albeit the have face-like markings on their front and a small sprout which serves as a tail on their rear. As they don't have a digestive system, nor do they make any noise, they lack a mouth and butt. They also lack genitals of any kind, as spudling are an asexual race that reproduces through planting. They can come in various colors, and weigh anywhere from 1/2 to 2 pounds.
Location
Spudling are found in deciduous woods which have seasons, particularly near lakes, swamps, and rivers. Primarily they like to dwell in the same areas as a normal Potato Plant would, as their similarity to the plant allows them to more easily evade predators. If an area goes through a drought it is possible for a species of spudling to dry out and die, so water is necessary for their survival. They also require nourishments from soil, and thus do not do well in environments with sandy or clay-filled soils.
Behavior
The behvaior of a spudling is similar to that of a rather tame, lovely old puppy. At random occasions having bursts of energy, but otherwise being quite passive and friendly. The most aggressive thing a spudling can do is ram into its owner's foot, and even then with their light weight, that's not that threatening. They, however, do tend to fear most other animals, as herbivores and omnivores alike enjoy the starchy flesh of the spudling.
To reproduce, spudling will, when in a safe location, bury their whole body in the ground with their little sprout tail sticking up through the earth into the air, and remain like this for some time. As time passes, the spudling will die, and the sprout will flourish into a plant, the paws/roots of the spudling growing further into the earth where four new spudlings will form from the paws, and once grown enough to do so, these spudlings will detach from the plant and dig their way into the surface to live their lives.
Benefits + Effects (Optional.)
Spudlings can be consumed, live or dead, in order to kill a spudling you must cook it either through roasting over a fire or boil it in salted water. (Cutting up spudling just results in multiple spudlings) If consumed, they taste similar to a potato which has been cooked with meat, albeit there is no meat in a spudling.
