The harpy are humanoid creatures with wings. Despite their usual nature however they are primarily carnivorous beings and quite uncivilized in nature.
There are 3 types of harpy. The Desert Harpy, the Snow Harpy and the most civilized of them all, the Mountain harpy. Unlike the other two the Desert harpy uses pure viciousness to strike at its enemies and they are usually not very civilized at all except for a small portion of this race, shunned in both worlds.
Meanwhile, the Snow Harpy uses beauty to ensnare its prey. The fair, soft skin of this beast and the glistening, white hair is a distinguishing feature, and although some are more civilized than this they will usually capture their prey using these features before eating them. The female usually hunts, though the male can depending on the prey, though they rarely hunt together as they are very protective even in their own flocks against each other.
Finally we come to the Mountain Harpies. These ones are very different from the others and were originally a mixture of the two. The harpies had been shunned from their flocks and forced to pull together, making these the most intelligent of the race. These ones earn respect and although they are carnivorous they will usually avoid eating humanoid creatures in the hopes that one day they can be treated different from the others.
The Desert Harpy
The Desert Harpy is a type with sandy brown wings and usually short hair due to the harsh heats of the Desert. They wear small amounts of clothing to keep them cool and dislike any trespassers, being the most uncivilized of the race.
Lifespan - 200 years
Height - 4 - 5 ft
Weight - 100-125
They very rarely carry a weapon with them, keeping trust in their talons. However those that have been shunned from the flock may do so, usually being more civilized. These Harpies have the ability to learn magic, however some think it distasteful and will betray the flock for accepting it at times, turning on them and working with other races or attempting to kill their flock with another.
These harpies, when together, stick together. They are animals at heart, and do not be fooled if they cry for help for they will kill you the first chance they get unless they are more civilized. You can tell this by if the shrieks are more tame and human or if they are more like wild animal shrieks.
As they soar through the desert they find tall, sandy mountains and upon those they build temple-like structures except out of sandstone. They live there, waiting for the right prey to stumble across their path and then they strike after watching and waiting for them to weaken from the harsh heat and lack of moisture. The Harpies usually built near an oasis and they bring the water from that oasis to their temple to create a natural spring to drink. They also have small pockets in their wings that allow them to go a week and sometimes 2 weeks without water. If prey does not stumble across their path then they usually feast on small insects or other creatures.
The Snow Harpy
The Snow Harpy is a very attractive race of harpy, the race being in love also with magic and symbols. Despite their also animalistic nature, they are more likely to live in separate homes around a mountain or in a cave on the mountain. This race has a love for culture and the females act sweetly innocent. However, letting your guard down for this race’s beauty can cost you your life, this is why the females usually hunt more than the males however at times males do hunt. When their is no prey to hunt they eat each other.
Lifespan - 250 years
Height - 4 - 6 ft
Weight - 100-125
These harpies can at times carry weapons and usually use magic to lure their enemy into their lair if they wish to appear more alluring towards them. The weapons they carry are usually either spears or small knives as they feel killing with their talons is not exactly alluring, however there are flocks who do prefer their talons to clean cuts and kills. These harpies are different from Desert Harpies as they slay each other, preferring to stay in their own homes in their own families even in the same flock. For the love of a female the male will often slaughter any other suitors with his talons until all other males relent and allow him to be with that harpy which he has his eye on.
They have their nest in the mountains within caves -or even for some of the more civilized ones, a town. The caves are often cut off into different sections and makes for an easy access down into gales to reach prey. Some say you can tell when these harpies are nearby the shrieks and cries which are said to be the souls of the men which had been captivated by affection, however this is just a myth and very easily could be false.
The Mountain Harpy
These harpies were originally those who were cast out from the Desert and from the Snowy mountains. The tales say these harpies came together as a smaller flock, learning the ways of each others race as they grew to accept and actually like the other cultures. They learned of the creatures that wandered the deserts and the creatures who crunched through the snow, and so curiosity and emotion was born. The beasts began to adapt quickly and understand as each generation became the next until eventually other flocks spread and a new race was born.
Lifespan -300 years
Height - 4 - 6 ft
Weight - 100-125
These harpies share a great love for magic and knowledge and do carry weapons like knives, though they do not thirst after bloodshed like the others. They usually have a very charming look and a seductive beauty from the genes of the Snow and Desert Harpies, though they can find it difficult to show their emotions due to them having an inept sense of how others of their race feel. They do speak to people however prefer to stick to their own race within the libraries they inhabit.
The Mountain harpies have no need for the blanket of snow or the heatwaves of the desert for they would not harm, and they know that this would aid them in not being hunted. And so they trust and gain knowledge, building or inhabiting libraries as they store their knowledge and live together. Though they are more civilized do not forget they are still harpies and primarily only eat meat, however they are more social and prefer to be kind whenever they go out to avoid their flock being hunted and to also gain knowledge. These harpies unlike the others grew to adapt hands to their wings, making it so they could write and turn the pages of books with more ease. These harpies are kind, but do not make them angry, for if done, you will probably meet your end.
