“What have I done. .?”
Description:
The Siesta is well known amongst people, and many have tried to hunt for it. . Though, have died upon their harsh journey to find it. There has only been one record of the Siesta having been brought back with it’s finder’s life not taken. It is said that this flower contains sleep-inducing properties, though, something much more sinister,- Poison. The plant is in such extreme conditions, that obtaining it is difficult, and to some, it’s a death wish.
Legend:
The story of the Siesta is one of grief.. Yet, none know whether to blame Insomnia, or the mortal. It is said that, in a time long ago, there was a mortal who adored the night, and that she would pray to Insomnia every night. Everything she did was based off the reasonable nature of her chosen Primal, constantly trying to be thoughtful, peaceful and logical. She was pure, despite not having much, save for the small wooden cottage and nature around her. She appreciated what she was given.
One dreadful morning, the woman’s mother had grown ill. The woman couldn’t bear it. She prayed to Insomnia the second the sun had set. She pleaded that her mother not be taken from her, she begged and begged, that she’d do anything, as tears streamed down her pale cheeks.
From her realm, above these mortals, Insomnia watched.. Yet, she knew she could do naught, as it was the mother’s time. The thought of her beloved, faithful worshiper pleading, yet being helpless, brought tears to the Primal’s eyes. All she could do was offer her sympathies from afar, and merely offer her the night of solace she always had. Insomnia shook her head, blinking the tears away from her eyes, as she simply panned her view of elsewhere, diverting away from the woman.
The next morning, the woman’s mother had passed.. During her sleep, it seemed. The woman spent the next few days simply cooped within her cottage, unable to believe that the only thing she had left had simply been taken. A single, lethargic laugh escaped her, as she shook her head.
The woman felt forsaken by Insomnia. She was slowly losing all faith,- This did not reflect to just the Primal as she watched her ex-worshiper.
Nay, as a whole, the woman was no longer as placid and reasonable as she once was. She became more stubborn, irrational.. And filled with ire. She no longer held the Primal’s doctrine towards herself. The woman had tossed away her faith, her heart shattered. It soon became obvious to Insomnia that the woman was becoming much more violent towards people that had dare provoked her.
Insomnia mourned for this one who had lost their path. . It was strange to her, for she usually did not care for mortals to this extreme extent. Yet, she felt that she was at fault to a certain degree. Insomnia shed a single tear, which fell to the top of a mountain in the north, where it was frigid and desolate. From the tear of Insomnia grew a single flower. A marker of her sorrow.. As she forced herself into isolation, now only answering the mortals when absolutely necessary.
Physical Description:
The flower is a simple beauty. It’s roots are of medium length, though enough to keep it firmly grounded, due to the harsh arctic winds which could sweep it away. It’s stalk is rather firm and upright, reaching up to approximately 9 inches tall. The stalk is of a light green hue, with leaves of a slightly deeper color. The leaves are broad and flat to absorb more light, though they curve upwards, the tips of the leaves curling inwards, making them appear more delicate. The leaves seem to secrete a rather sticky substance, which is transparent. Atop the stem, beautiful petals of royal blue curl out of the pollen.. Being more triangular in shape, though the points of these ‘triangles’ being more rounder, making them look like teardrops. The petals gleam beautifully, having a silky sheen, their deep blue color enchanting and alluring. In the middle, amidst the petals, lays pollen of silver color. This pollen has a very faint glow, their silver color making them look akin to faraway stars in the night sky. Overall, the flower measures at about 11 inches in height, due to the stem, and the height of the petals.
Properties:
- The petals of the Siesta, if harvested carefully and dried out, can be crushed into a powder and mixed with a drink. This will make the person fall into a deep, coma-like slumber for an hour or so, after that, they will awaken. The sleep is dreamless and sensory-deprived.
- The substance secreted from the leaves can irritate the skin if touched with bare hands.. However, if consumed, the victim will throw up and be met with a fever. These symptoms are not serious, though the poisonous substance will have to somehow be eradicated from their body.
The pollen, if harvested with care, and mixed into a person’s sustenance or beverage, can induce effects of relaxation and tranquility, helping to relieve them.
