Nature Dryad
[Native Race]
Basic overview:
Natives of the forests of a far away isle, Dryads live in peace together but are a dying breed. No one truly knows how they were created though the Dryads themselves believe a higher power watches over them and created them oh so long ago to protect the forests and nature. They are plant based people that often have humanoid forms and walk on two legs. Their heights and colours differ greatly depending on whom their parents were as their way of reproducing is very different from any other race.
The dryads will take on the form of their other race donor but still will have the facial features and basic body structure of their dryad parent.
Appearance:
The basic and most commonly found Dryad is that of human offspring. They were the first created and often lived close by human settlements but never fully left their forest homes. All Dryads often have large round eyes akin to a doe and slick bodies that glide fast and easy through water, over land and even sky. They are often feminine in appearance but throughout their growth can choose to take on shapes to fit the world around them. These shapes however can never reform after being formed. If for example one wants more mass to look stronger they will always keep that mass. This Mass isn’t muscle and has limits such as the race’s height
Mating:
Dryads can not mate with one another. As the dryads are agender reproducing is impossible.
A ‘donor’ of another race is needed to create a child together. The two combine their dna’s though the donor giving up blood that the Dryad can absorb into their person; in this way they do not reproduce like other races. Once it is willingly accepted into their own bloodstream they can create a sapling that will grow on their body for two months before being able to be carried around in a pea pod like contraption. With in six months a baby will be born with the mixed dna of both the dryad and it’s donor. Dryads can refuse blood to be accepted into their body but can however force the donor blood through different means.
There are only a few exception to this rule that can not give their dna.
Culture:
Dryads do not have a proper concept of leadership. The only thing they need to survive is water and sunlight meaning a need for a colony is overrated at times. Some choose to stick together but it always seems to be more of a group effort then a led society. Young children when born attach themselves quickly to their parents or guardian being helpless for the first few years of life but maturing fast and easily making it on their own after age six. Their bodies never really age past twenty only starting to show old age when they are past a hundred years old. Before death Dryads tend to merge themselves completely with nature being able to live life from then on as just watchful eyes but never again able to speak, move or feel. Only sight and sound are what is left and even that tends to fade.
Naming:
They often name themselves after something within nature or to do with nature. Adding elven prefixes or their way of spelling it is also not uncommon. Calling yourself outright ‘Rose, Daisy, Tulip’ is very frowned upon though.
Clothing:
The Dryads aren’t in need of clothes per say. They have modesty and tend to cover up their private parts with foliage of some kind but that is it really. They have no shame in wearing large leaf dresses or outfits and accessories with pinecones or other flowers. More civilised Dryads tend to wear clothes with a lot of freedom in movement and not that covering so the sun can still hit their body.
Human Dryads [flora]:
The Human Dryads are some of the most colourful beings alive. They have adapted to take on the shapes and colours of the plants they are living with and that are around them to blend in and show they are part of the valley of flowers and forests as well. They commonly take on the type of plant that could survive and live in the same climate as their dryad parent. Their colors and shapes can still change of course.
