Character name: Ishtar
Broadly described as a ‘Demon Hunter’, Ishtar’s magical arsenal mostly revolves around spells intended to pursue and purge unsanctified abominations which seek to bring harm and misery to the inhabitants of this world- However, not all of her spells are solely intended for harming. Though her anti-demon magic is a great boon to her duties, she is still primarily a physical fighter at heart and most of her potential stems from this.
Known Spells
Smite - The most prominent and integral spell at Ishtar’s disposal; A radiant force that appears as a glowing font of light and burns through the flesh of ‘unholy’ and malignant creatures such as Demons, Undead and Vampires, much like a red-hot blade would burn the flesh of an ordinary mortal. This has a much lesser effect on any other entity or being, unless their malevolence happens to be particularly strong. Ishtar usually imbues her blade or relic with this power, which lasts a relatively short time- usually not more than an hour at maximum charge, before it quickly loses potency and eventually diminishes, but can also project it like a beam. It can also second as a source of light, comparable to a slightly dimming torch. Depending on the degree at which she prepares the spell, the amount of mana consumed, its potency and its duration all vary, from little to moderate. She has fair experience with this spell, having used it many times in her past in order to slay demons and similar creatures.
Consumes 2 - 10 mana, depending on charge rate.
Sense Evil - While channeling, Ishtar can detect ‘unholy’ and malevolent entities and behaviour within a variable proximity, dependant on her concentration, which includes Demonkind, Undead and Necromancy, Vampires and Aberrations. The sensation is difficult to describe; it would be like trying to explain colour to a blind man or music to a deaf man. It can best be described as similar to that of a bad smell, or an icy chill across the skin, more potent depending on the magnitude and proximity of that which is ‘unholy’. This spell is not usually much stronger than one’s usual mortal perceptions, however the strength and range is greatly enhanced while Ishtar is in a deeply focused, meditative state. She can channel it as though it were passive, but it requires much more mana to sustain in this state and can quickly grow tiring. The spell otherwise takes considerably little mana to channel while focusing. This was the first spell Ishtar learned, and the one she is most capable of casting.
Consumes 1 mana per 5 RP minutes while focused. 2 mana per 5 RP minutes while unfocused.
Learning Spells
Absolvement/Retribution - With a willing mind, Ishtar gazes into the past memories of her host, bearing witness to every sin they have committed, mistake they have made and regret that they carry. She can then bestow a permanent feeling of absolvement from these burdens, as if they had been forgiven by the divines themselves- However, the host must not be resistant to this change and must also ‘want’ to forgive themselves; there is no way to fake this feeling as it requires a genuine desire of forgiveness and resolution from deep within. Resistance is generally quite easy, but resisting the spell’s effect entirely would require quite a magnitude of willpower. Alternately, Ishtar can induce a sensation equal to the total pain and suffering her host has caused to others in these past images, in a truly ‘Ghost-Rider’ fashion. This too can be resisted by willpower, but likewise some degree of the spell’s power often still manages to sink in. Both sides of the spell require moderate amounts of mana to cast, and require deep focus- even a slight nudge can completely disrupt the process. Ishtar is currently fairly experienced with Absolvement, however she has not yet had a chance to cast Retribution besides on herself, which is a very difficult and tolling process, leaving her with relatively little experience in its utility.
Both consume 8 mana over the course of the spells entire duration.
