Blood Magic
Innocence to Chaos, and Blood to Ashes.
And so it was heard in the wicked dark of the night, the mangled howls of beast and man, a simple cry of agony and then of silence.
Because it did not start with a whimper,
But with a bang.
Origin:
It is known that not all things are understood in this world. The creatures do not know why or when things started, as they live blissfully unaware. All they know is that a great evil entered their world one day, in the form of a woman named Elecia.
The night was dark, as dark as it would be all year. Townsfolk closed their shutters, hiding away from the darkness. One woman walked alone. There had always been something off about this woman, some form of silent magic worked away. She carried bad luck with her wherever she went. Mirrors broke, cats scurried, bad things happened to people around her. There were fires, and floods and natural disasters, and the townspeople believed her to be the cause. They were afraid of her. She knew it, and she used it. She was cruel at heart, using the weaknesses of others to her own advantage. But she was born with a spark. A spark she used to her advantage in evil. She worked with pain and suffering and made it her own. She created some form of new magic, dwelling in darkness. She often caught the attention of others, forming their own cult. They did circles, sacrifices and rituals. They abode by one rule. Blood must be drawn to exert control.
Elecia’s Advice:
Be quiet, for you work in silence.
Shy away from light, for you work in darkness.
Tell no one.
Be neither seen nor heard.
And most importantly, survive my child.
Do not be open about your dealings, and tell no one.
For you may face punishment worse than death.
And remember, Innocence to Chaos, and Blood to Ashes.
Physical Changes:
Although there are few physical changes, a key way to tell when blood-mages are casting magic is their eyes. During a spell-cast or ritual, and [Five OOC minutes] afterwards, the mage will show a blackened sclera, with a blood red iris. [X] Another tell-tale sign is a single brand-like mark on the mage’s right or left shoulder, depending on which hand they’re dominant in. It bears a famous symbol of eight arrows in radical pattern, known as the Chaos Star.
Mental Changes:
Working in secret does something to a person’s mentality, including these dark mages. Often, a mage will become more self-centered in their decision making, due to constantly working under the pressure of silence. It is unknown whether this is to usual human mentality, or the work of the very magic they use.
Rituals:
The Ritual Of Silence
This is a ritual done by 2-3 mages, done inside of a Pentagram drawn of chalk, or blood. It is often stronger when done with the more sinister latter. The mages sit across from another or in a triangle shape outside of the Pentagram. There are no words spoken in this ritual, hence its name. The mage’s require a simple hay doll, with drops of blood of their chosen victim. The mages join auras, closing their eyes. The ritual is usually led by a single mage. Once they’ve locked in control with one another, they open their eyes, and they view what the victim sees for [2 Emotes] for lesser mages, [4 Emotes] for more experienced mages, and [5 Emotes] for Master mages. To the victim, they usually feel a tingling, uncomfortable feeling, as if they are being watched. Other than this, they show no detection of this ritual.
The Ritual of Fire
This ritual is usually done in a Pentacle with 3-4 mages, on the darkest night of the year. The Pentacle is drawn with blood or chalk, the ritual being stronger with the former. The mages sit in a triangle or a diamond shape on the outside of the Pentacle. In the center sits a belonging of the victim’s, usually clothing. This belonging must have at least a drop of the victim’s blood. The leader then proceeds to enter the Pentacle with a torch or lantern of some kind, and they light the person’s possession on fire. Depending on the skill levels of the mage, this ritual often kills or maims the victim, which is of course, the intent. If a lesser mage leads the ceremony with other mages, the victim often doesn’t die, but is instead left with painful burn scars. [Roll a d20, any lower than a seven, and the victim dies. The extent of the burns is up to the victim, if the character lives. If a experienced mage is leading the ceremony, the victim rolls a d20, anything under a 10, the victim perishes. They are left with painful burn scars as well, if they survive the ritual.]
The Ritual of Screams
This ritual is done in a simple protection circle done with chalk or blood. This is the only ritual that can be done with a single mage, although it is stronger with more. The mage or mages sit in the middle of the circle with a dagger that must have the victim’s blood on it. The mage places the dagger in front of them, being careful not to touch the blade. The mage then begins a simple chant, holding their hands over the blade. The mage chants the words ‘Innocence to Chaos, and Blood to Ashes.’ Several times. After so, they close their eyes and imagine the victim. The victim will begin to feel as if they are being cut by an invisible knife over their body. This is not usually fatal, but the chance of it being fatal increases due to the amount of mages involved in the ritual. [Victim rolls a d20, Under three [Single Mage] means that the cuts have found themselves to the victim’s throat, killing them. Under five [More than one mage] means the same. The victim decides what extent the cuts are, if they live through the ritual. The cuts are appear to others as though they are regular knife cuts.]
