Mana Bell
Description:
The mana Bell, also known as the Lunar Blossom is well known in late night stories, seen as a legendary plant hunted for by mages and rich nobles across the lands. It has been said that the flower is capable of giving a small bit of power if the petals of the flower are eaten fresh. However, from what researchers can gather about it, the plant seems to be so rare, that this theory has been unproven since the stories origins.
Legend: The story of the Mana Bell comes from a traveling story teller, who only speaks of the legend by request, stating as such. "I once met a man, he went by the name of Wrath. He was a strong warrior, said to have stopped an entire army before his homeland, sending them away bloodied and dishonored. One day however, the great warrior fell ill. He cried out toward the heavens, "Why have you dishonored me so!" There was no answer from the gods, the man grew very ill, loosing his hero like strength and becoming a frail man. The warrior began to instead pray to the gods he had once mocked. Eventually, they responded with only a single phrase. They said- "Go to the peak of the mountain, there you will find the answers you seek." Desperate, the now frail man, aided by his wife and family ascended that mountain, upon that peak however, the warrior did not find power, or any obvious answer that he thought to have earned. Instead sat a lone flower, so beautiful it could be said that it's petals were the reflection of the moon!
The man became enraged. "I thought to have been given an answer, instead you give me this stupid plant!" He said. The gods only stared down at the man in pity, the warriors wife was the first to speak, and the last. "My husband, how you dishonor yourself so. The gods have given you an answer, this flower is the truth to which you have searched for so long." To the gods amazement, the wife let go of her frail husband, moving over to the flower. The gods said only one word to the woman, before all on the mountain to hear. "Eat" As the wife ate the petals she seemed to change, growing stronger than the man, more powerful than he had ever been, but the strength of heart was not the answer the gods had given, no, it was strength of mind! The woman had become enlightened, and then she knew how foolish the warrior had been."
Physical appearance: The Mana Bell is often described as a mirror to the moon, however its real appearance is quiet simple. It's roots are long and deep, going a few feet below the surface to collect what it needs from the hard soil it lives in. To remove the plant would be to ruin it due to these long roots. It's stalk goes upwards toward the sky extending only about a foot or so, its color a deep blue due to its properties. The flower will usually only have a few leaves that will branch off of the stem, extending themselves outward to absorb the moonlight.
At the top of the stem rests a single flower bud that at most has 8-9 petals, and at it's center the bud is described as being an array of colors appearing to mimic the moon, in truth however, these are a complicated artwork of seeds and future buds. The petals are what really catch the eye, as they are a mix of blue's, purple's, and white's. The mix and style of the colors allows it to act as though it is a lens into the heavens. The over all "look" of the flower is said to clearly mimic it's food source, the moon's light.
Properties: The Mana bell being so incredibly rare has most of its arcane properties to be unknown, however from what researchers and scholars have been able to witness or hear of the flower has lead to the following conclusions.
-The flower is able to retain and absorb moonlight, being that during the day the flowers petals are closed to the sun, seeming that too much sunlight can damage the plant. In this regard, the flower can only survive in very precise situations and environments.
-It can be used to create certain potions with the proper knowledge to do so. Any improper handling will cause the flower to wilt, and die. Making it completely useless to it's user.
-if the plant is attempted to be moved, or uprooted from it's resting place, this will cause the flower to die. It's roots are so long that removing them will cause shock to the plant and make it collapse.
Medical Uses: The Mana bell's medical properties are vastly unknown, no doctor or scholar seems to have ever been able to successfully test it's uses on a patient. However, due to it's legend it has been said that those with too much sun energy can be laid in waters doused in these flowers allowing them to heal their ailments and energies. This theory although unique is yet to be proven.
Alchemy Uses: Unlike the medical art, Alchemists have been following the stories and research of the Mana Bell for as long as the legend has existed. Those special few who were able to find the flower have been able to determine that i can be used to create potions. These are however incredibly difficult in nature to do correctly and requires an Alchemist of competent skill to complete. If done incorrectly, it can lead to the creators own risk, or embarrassment for wasting such an incredibly rare specimen.
-Can be used to create a potion said to contain "Mana" or power of magi. This potion is limited to one use per flower, and can only be used to cast lower tier magic. If one attempted to perform a high difficulty spell they would find themselves using their own energy's instead of that of the potion.
Location: The Mana bell if able to be found, will only be located in area's of extreme cold, or heavy long winters. This flower will only appear at night, its nature being that of the cold. Anywhere of heat or warmth will cause this flower to wilt and die. If attempting to locate such a plant, one might wish to bring a coat, it will be a long journey.
(OOC side note): Due to the nature of this plant, it would be up to the Dm to allow for its location, or rarity. Be aware that it may take a few tries to locate, and its dangerous nature is something to look out for.
