Markandeya
Name:
Markandeya ,Vampire
Aliases:
Blood Suckers, Creatures of the Night, Monsters, Beasts
Description:
Vampires. . .a dark, mysterious group of transformed humanoids into the “monsters” they are currently. That’s what most people think of vampires anyways. Vampires are often known to become blood suckers by night, mysterious and dark “average” people by day. Vampires must suck blood, any type of blood would do, however the vampire will get an urge to suck the blood once exposed to it. This can lead to the vampire becoming blood hungry and suck the blood of the victim, if they resist the need to drink blood and don't do so, they will die of starvation. History of these vampires can be dated all the way back thousands of years ago, (See History). Their culture is very important to the Vampires, if any go against it they will be considered an Outcast.
Appearance:
To start off, the Markandeya often have yellow and red eyes, however, their pupils are that of a serpent’s, allowing Markandeya to have better vision. Their hair is much like a human’s, and from common to least common, their hair come in these colors: Blonde, White, Light Brown, Brunette, Red/Ginger, and Black. Their skin is sickly pale, due to not being out in the sun and spending time in the dark. Also, due to blood intake, their skin is generally smooth. The Markandeya generally have a slimmer, more graceful body build, to allow them to gain speed in hunting for their prey. Although they can be toned, just not bulky. In some ways, the Markandeya appear elven, however they have shorter elf-like ears with rounded points. All Markandeya have sharp fangs [their canines, usually] to allow them to suck blood from their victims to sate their hunger. Their height can range from 5 – 6 feet tall.
Behavior:
The Markandeya, to those upon first meeting one, seem alluring and inviting. This, however, is a false attitude, as to the Markandeya, this is just a mask to hide their true nature and attract their victims and prey. The Markandeya, in their true nature, are manipulative, cold, and ruthless. They will often use others to get their ways, and often don’t care for the other races except their own. In fact, they only think of the other races as food, and lower beings, meant to be slaves.
Abilities:
Positive:
Dash – Vampires can dash towards their predator at high speeds in order to basically 'close the gap'. In other words, dash towards their prey to hunt and suck their blood. Vampires can sometimes use this to escape, however it only allows them to get some distance between them and their attacker, and they can get exhausted when using this, so be careful when using the dash to escape.
Strength – Vampires can lift amazing weights, before they become exhausted after using much of their energy.
Negative:
Blood Thirst – Vampires must drink blood, doesn’t have to be often but must be enough to last time a while. Otherwise, if they don’t drink blood, they die.
Vulnerability to Sunlight – Vampires can be exposed to sunlight, but not for long, if they are exposed for too long they will start to get burns. The longer they’re in the sun, the more severe burns they get.
Fire – Vampires are extremely afraid of fire, because it can turn them to stone (oddly enough). Once turned to stone they are vulnerable for attacks unless they drink blood, then they will go back to normal.
Lifespan:
The Markandeya generally live up to 250 years before they die of old age. They fully mature at the age of 20, although the Markandeya generally age much slower than most races.
Reproduction:
Like most races, they reproduce sexually, however, the Markandeya may only reproduce with humans and elves of their own kind, as any other races are too genetically different to create a child Markandeya.
History:
Some say that the very first vampire was a simple offering, to become immortal and avoid aging that was cursed on all men. Others say that it was due to the man's own pride that he finally met a prey he could not match in combat. Yet the others continue to speak that this same man came upon a horrific sight that forever changed who he was. Many agree, however, that the hunter descended from the cursed birthplace of his new self, his own people now served a new purpose for him with his own new need, the thirst for blood. Corpses were left on the streets of the village, some were dead, while others were turned to become like the hunter himself. The vampire curse had planted the first roots, and it still survives, even to this very day.
Culture:
In a family, a Markandeya’s family do not follow matriarchal or patriarchal structure; rather, the role of parenting and is split equally between both heads. When a Markandeya is born, a masquerade ball on the night of a bloodmoon will be held to celebrate such, and this is otherwise known as ‘The Bloodmoon Masquerade Ball’. The Markandeya have been known to steal people of elven or human descent as either blood slaves, or simple housekeepers. Upon a Markandeya’s 20th birthday, when they begin to crave blood for the first time as they reach maturity, they will be taken out either by a parent or older sibling to hunt / lure in prey. This is a sign of maturity and growth, which is greatly revered within the Markandeya society.
Languages:
This language is generally soft-spoken, a regal undertone set to it, the harsh pronunciations blurred out. This language is comparable to French, and as such, it’s elegant in nature.
Turning Process:
They tend to either bite their tongues to smear blood onto the wound of the victim as they feed, in order to get their own blood into the victim's body, or they tend to cut their fingertips and the soon-to-be turned person's fingertips, before pressing their's with the person's, in order to cause their blood to mix.
The turning process if extremely painful, causing vomiting, fevers, headaches and cramps, and most of the time, the victims do not survive the turning process, the strain on their body being too much.
The turning process lasts for an IC week, and on the seventh day, the victim will notice their eyes have become either yellow or red, their once round pupils have been elongated and thinned into that of a serpent's, and that their nails have elongated and been slightly reinforced to act like claws.
On the seventh day, despite their skin being pale, they will also notice it is rather dry and almost.. rough. To get rid of this, they must drink blood, and their skin will regain a smoother, softer texture.
After turning, they will notice that they have a strange craving for blood.. And so, they must feed within a day, or they will go berserk.
